On Sunday 20 July 2025 as part of the Domestic Dog Training Conference the presentation for Dog Training Club of the Year was made. The Judge was the conference’s main speaker and well-respected British Dog Trainer (Click 2 Heel) Di Martin. Horowhenua Dog Training Club was the winner but Taupo placed 3rd and following is the Judge’s comments re this placing.

“Taupo presented a thoughtful and balanced submission. You get the sense that they are quietly doing some great work.

Their programmes are structured and well-run, and their values shine through without being over-hyped. I particularly liked the balance between tradition and progression, and also the respect held for both dogs and their handlers.

It feels like a club that’s solid, steady and supportive and that is exactly what so many people are looking for.”

This is the Club’s first time entering into this award so the 3rd place is awesome and Di Martin’s critique heartening.

I was born in Canada, and grew up around Vancouver and the mountains of British Columbia.
